Our senior debating team defeated nine schools to lift the championship trophy, with Hamza Ali named best speaker.
After three rounds of fierce but friendly competition at the Galyat Inter-school Debating Championship, the Silverpine senior team — Hamza Ali, Maryam Siddiqui and Daniyal Abbasi — lifted the winner's trophy on Saturday.
The final motion, "This house believes that social media does more harm than good to young people", saw our team argue the opposition with confidence, evidence and humour. Hamza Ali (Grade 10) was named Best Speaker of the championship and Maryam Siddiqui received the Best Rebuttal award.
Building confident voices
Our Debate Society meets twice a week and welcomes students from Grade 6 upwards, in both English and Urdu. Members practise research, structured argument and public speaking — skills that serve them far beyond the podium.
